Self-Topography on Paper
In 2026, Paper Lab Berlin continues its commitment to deep material exploration and artistic research. This year’s program is built around two central formats — Paper Camp and our Workshop Programs — offering different ways to work with paper as material, structure, and conceptual field.
Paper Camp invites participants to explore the vast potential of paper—its versatility as a material, its conceptual depth, and its ability to serve as a tool for artistic expression.
Our programs take place worldwide, with 2026 focused mainly on Europe and the Mediterranean, alongside additional destinations when the right context appears.
Locations
Paper Lab Berlin collaborates worldwide with academies, studios, workshop centers, and independently rented venues. While 2026 focuses on Europe and the Mediterranean, additional destinations will be added when the right opportunities arise.
We approach location with flexibility and creativity. Some programs take place in cities, others in rural settings or temporary studios created specifically for the workshop period. Each place offers its own rhythm and supports concentrated work.
Below you will find the locations hosting us in 2026. Each postcard opens into a full program with dates, structure, and details.
Paper Camp
is a self-residency program for artists and creatives who want to work intensively with paper — not as a single technique, but as a full discipline that spans casting, forming, mold making, plant-based processes, installation, and self-topography.
Paper Camp takes place in a variety of settings — urban studios, rural locations, island venues, and temporary working environments created specifically for the program. We choose each place for its ability to support concentrated work, long teaching days, and a clear environment for experimentation.
Paper Camp is where labor, curiosity, and experiment meet — an environment that allows participants to enter deeply into their practice and generate new material understanding.
Workshop Program
Our Workshop Programs offer focused, theme-based, in-person learning. They are designed for participants who want clear methods, hands-on practice, and exploration within specific areas of paper.
In 2026, we offer two core workshops:
The Groundwork of Paper Forms — Foundations
A comprehensive introduction to papermaking, forming, mold creation, and casting. The Groundwork of Paper Forms — Advanced
A deeper exploration that expands the foundations into more complex structures and experimental forms.
In some locations, we also offer additional sessions developed together with the host — conceptual workshops, thematic masterclasses, or special editions shaped by each environment.
The Groundwork of Paper Forms
Foundations
is an intensive, hands-on entry into working with pulp as a sculptural material. Over two days, participants explore how forms, textures, and structures emerge through molds, casting, and focused experimentation.
The Groundwork of Paper Forms
Advanced
For those ready to go further: Advanced is a high-intensity workshop exploring complex molds, plant-based fibers, fabric pulps, and hybrid casting. The material becomes vast and so do the possibilities.
Additional Masterclasses
Alongside our core workshops, Paper Lab Berlin offers a wide range of specialized masterclasses,
each dedicated to a specific field within paper research.
These may appear as stand-alone workshops or be integrated into the Paper Camp curriculum.
Masterclasses include:
Papier-Mâché, The Sewing Machine Lab — Threads & Paper,
Paper Making from Fabrics, The Wisdom of Plants,
Wax & Paper, Clay & Paper,
Silicone Mold Making & Paper Casting,
Tape Art, Salt & Paper
and additional topics that continue to grow from our ongoing research.
Each masterclass has its own duration and focus — from technique-driven sessions to conceptual explorations — offering participants an extended field in which to deepen their practice.
Paper Camp or Workshop Programs?
Teaching Philosophy
Paper Lab Berlin works within a lab state of mind.
Our approach is grounded in practice, repetition, and attentive observation — treating paper as both material and a surface capable of recording choices, movement, and internal landscapes.
Key principles include:

Labor and Repetition
From Foundations to Depth
Experiment as Method
Professional Framework.
