Paper Lab’ers Membership –

Rules, Guidelines, and Terms of Participation.

Introduction

Paper Lab’ers is the membership platform of Paper Lab Berlin, created and led by artist and researcher Guy Lougashi. It is a dedicated space for those who wish to explore paper not only as a material, but as a field of research, dialogue, and experiment. The platform brings together artists, makers, and researchers from around the world in a sustained rhythm of masterclasses, discussions, and exchanges.

Now entering its second year, Paper Lab’ers has established itself as both laboratory and archive—a structure where practice generates knowledge, and knowledge reshapes practice. It is a place to deepen technical skills, open conceptual approaches, and connect with others who are committed to pushing the boundaries of what paper can be.

The Core: Monthly Masterclasses

At the center of the Paper Lab’ers platform are the monthly masterclasses. Each month, Guy Lougashi—or an invited artist, researcher, or professional—leads a focused session that combines practice, theory, and experiment.

  • Classes introduce new techniques and methods while revisiting familiar ones from fresh perspectives.

  • Sessions move between the material and the conceptual, asking what paper can do, what it can represent, and how it shapes the way we think about making.

  • Each masterclass is recorded, accompanied by a presentation and supporting files, and shared with all members—allowing for continued learning and revisiting.

The archive of past masterclasses is steadily growing into a unique resource. Members may join from the present moment, or retroactively access earlier sessions by adjusting their membership start date or by purchasing individual masterclasses.

Paper Talks Pro

In addition to the masterclasses, members participate in Paper Talks Pro—monthly 90-minute sessions dedicated to reflection, technical clarity, and conceptual dialogue.

These talks extend the value of the masterclasses:

  • They create space for questions and in-depth discussion.

  • They provide ongoing technical and conceptual support between classes.

  • They keep the platform alive as a continuous conversation rather than a series of isolated sessions.

Each Paper Talks Pro is also recorded and distributed, ensuring accessibility for all members regardless of time zones or schedules.

One-on-One Consultations

Every member receives a 45-minute personal consultation with Guy Lougashi. These sessions can be used in one meeting or divided into shorter conversations. They provide a space for focused, individual guidance:

  • Feedback on projects

  • Technical problem-solving

  • Conceptual or research-based direction

  • Support in connecting practice with broader artistic or academic frameworks

The consultations allow each member to anchor their personal practice within the broader collective framework of Paper Lab’ers.

Ongoing Community Support

The membership also includes access to a members-only WhatsApp channel. This space functions as a support system where members can:

  • Share progress, questions, and experiments

  • Exchange resources and references

  • Stay connected with fellow members between sessions

It is an informal but vital part of the platform, allowing members to remain in dialogue and keep their work moving forward.

Themes and Directions

The Paper Lab’ers program does not follow a fixed annual agenda. Instead, it is guided by a fluid approach, shaped by encounters with artists, materials, and ideas. Our history demonstrates this openness:

In the first year, Paper Lab’ers offered masterclasses that included:

  • Two volumes on papier mâché

  • Three volumes on paper installations

  • Advanced mold making and casting

  • Silicone and paper

  • Paper from fabrics

  • Clay and paper

  • Wax and paper

  • Tape art

  • A special White on White masterclass

  • Guest sessions with invited artists and researchers

Together, these formed a living archive of methods, concepts, and experiments. In 2026, we will continue deepening these paths, while opening the platform to more voices, special editions, and collaborations.

The Value of Membership

Paper Lab’ers is more than a program; it is a community of practice and research. It offers:

  • A rhythm of monthly engagement

  • Access to growing archives of knowledge

  • Direct connection to leading research in paper arts

  • The chance to situate your own work within a global dialogue

What began as an experiment has now become a sustained structure—a place where individual practice and collective exploration meet, and where knowledge is carried forward through repetition, labor, and exchange.

Membership Options

  • Standard Membership: Valid from the date of registration through December 2026.

  • Retroactive Membership: Members may choose to add past masterclasses to their subscription. Each selected past masterclass moves the membership start date back by one month. Alternatively, past masterclasses can be purchased individually for €15 each.

Membership Fee: €180

Payment options include bank transfer and PayPal. Details are provided upon registration.

Conclusion

Paper Lab’ers is a platform in constant motion—part workshop, part archive, part community. It grows through the contributions of its members and the encounters it fosters. By joining, you take part in a living structure dedicated to research, self-experiment, and creative dialogue with paper.
