Paper Lab’ers Focus

Self-Topography on Paper

Paper Lab’ers is an international community of artists, makers, and researchers from across the globe, brought together through Paper Lab Berlin by a shared interest in paper as a material for artistic expression, experimentation, and investigation. The membership platform provides a space for ongoing learning, research, and exchange across geographical and disciplinary boundaries.

Paper Lab’ers Focus

An ongoing series of member-led showcases and discussions within Paper Lab Berlin, dedicated to artistic practice, experimentation, research, and critical inquiry.

Every few weeks, a different member presents a selected aspect of their artistic practice or introduces a subject for collective investigation. Showcases may examine bodies of work, exhibitions, ongoing projects, experimental techniques, material processes, artistic influences, or questions arising from individual research.

Each session combines a presentation with an open discussion, creating opportunities to examine methodologies, exchange knowledge, question established approaches, and reflect on artistic decisions, processes, and outcomes.

Rooted in Paper Lab Berlin’s concept of Self-Topography on Paper, the series explores how individual artistic languages develop through the relationship between materials, experimentation, conceptual thinking, and personal investigation.

Paper remains at the centre of this investigation, approached not only as a surface or medium, but as a material with its own physical properties, structures, possibilities, and limitations. Through diverse artistic and technical approaches, members examine how working with paper can generate new methods, questions, and directions within their individual practices.

All sessions are recorded and preserved in the Paper Lab’ers archive, building an expanding documentation of artistic practices, research processes, and perspectives across the community.
